Day 81 8/4 30.5mi.

Our longest day yet!

Haha last night we cowboy camped because we were up high and away from water and in the wind so we thought we'd be bug free. That was a bad decision all night we were both getting bit on the face and hands by mosquitos. It was also very hot which made it hard to stay under our sleeping bags, any time any skin poked out from under the bag it got bit it was not a pleasant nights sleep!

We got up nice and early and got a good start to the day. We hiked for about 3 and a half hours before taking a break. By lunch we had more than 16 miles in and at about 4 the trail crossed a large river so we went down there and washed up a bit, but the water was absolutely freezing so no swimming. We pushed to just over 30 miles by about 9.

I was cruizing along, trying to finish a big climb before dark, I was in the zone and all of a sudden I heard a bunch of crashing and saw a black bear cub booking it up the mountain. I was really surprised and scarred cause I never saw the mom, but luckily that was the end of the encounter.

  1. Wow! 30 miles! You two are cruising. I can't believe that you're almost to Oregon already.
