Day 122 9/14 18.5mi.
We woke early to catch part of the sunrise which was just as great as sunset, and some of the smoke had cleared so we got the full view of Mt. Adams for the first time, as well as a distant view of Mt. Saint Helens!
We climbed a bit higher up to about 7200 feet, we walked across snow many times this morning and the views kept coming. The three of us descended down a ridge called Knifes Edge, because it drops so steeply on both sides. The trail down the ridge was covered in large, thin, flat rocks. It was like walking on big dinner plates and at times they'd slide a bit down as you stepped on them!
The walk down was a little hairy and took much longer than normal, but soon we were back on flat ground and we cruised the last 12 miles to White's Pass. When we got down to the road we found a woman camped there giving out trail magic! She set up her tent for a week and served hikers homemade soup and bread as well as pop, Gatorade, beer, and tons of other snacks!
We then headed a halfmile down the road to a gas station and grabbed the resupply packages we had sent ourselves. They sold fried food at the store and just before they closed at 6 they gave us the rest of the fried food for free!!
The gas station was sold out of fuel, but the woman working there said she'd pick some up and have it tomorrow morning. So we started walking down the road back to sleep near where the trail angel was set up and an RV pulled over and a couple got out and gave us bag of six fresh peaches!! They didn't really say much except that we seemed like we could use some peaches and they had a bag of peaches.
We ended the night by hanging around and talking to other hikers and the trail angel.
