Day 48 7/2 16.5 mi.

We walked past a ton of small lakes today, the water is always so clear in these lakes you can see all the rocks well below the surface. They are all also very frigid, since it's all snow melt, or they would be good places to stop for a swim.

We started the day with a long downhill, at the bottom we came to a really cool suspension bridge (pictured above). Then we transitioned to uphill, and a lot of it. Todays climb over Pinchot pass was probably the hardest of the trip for both Carly and I. We had to climb just over 3500 feet, but it was spreadout over a distance of 7 miles. Even though it was fairly gradual compared to other climbs the length of it wore on us. Our legs were also already worn out from all the climbing last night. We both eventually made it to the top, our reward was another amazing view! There were actually quite a few clouds in the sky on the other side of the pass as well, which is very unusual for us to see out here.

We descended back down a bit and found a campsite that was still relatively high up. We cooked dinner with a fantastic view. As we were cooking and eating a dense fog formed in the valley below. Eventually it turned to all clouds below and you could only see the tall mountains poking up through the undercast. It was beautiful but unfortunately not something you can capture in a picture.
