Day 49 7/3 24mi.

We got a kinda late start this morning, at around 8. After about 2 miles of downhill we started back up to Mather pass, which was one of the easiest passes so far. There was only a 2000 foot elevation gain and it was all pretty gradual besides the last 1/4 mile or so. We had a quick lunch at the top overlooking where we would be hiking next.

There haven't been many other thru-hikers around lately, but there have been a lot of people hiking the John Muir trail southbound. I believe I forgot to mention earlier ever since Mt. Whitney a few days ago the PCT has been overlapping the John Muir trail, which is a very popular 200 mile long trail that ends in Yosemite valley.

After lunch we had about 12 miles of downhill with 4000 feet of elevation loss. Carly and I were both feeling pretty good and we made it to the bottom surprisingly quick. The whole walk down was filled with amazing scenery, there were many waterfalls, gorgeous meadows, and huge rocky peaks surrounding us on all sides! At the bottom we finally saw another PCT hiker, a new face named Backtrack.

We finished the day late with 3 more miles of up hill and found a nice place to camp along side the middle fork of the Kings river, were falling asleep to lots of water rushing by
