Day 15 5/30 15mi.
Trying to sleep in when you are cowboy camping in the desert never works out. We got up as the sun hit us at about 630. Our morning walk was through an extremely windy valley that was filled with wind turbines, which was kind if interesting to me since I just graduate with a degree in renewable energy. About half of the turbines were an older model which were much noiser and smaller than the newer bigger ones. I believe a lot of the old turbines were put up in the late 70's and early 80's and you could see that many of them were not working any more and some had nothing left standing but the tower.
After about 5 miles we planned to make a pit stop by a trail angels house, in our guide book it said they provided shade and water in their back yard for hikers, when we got there we followed the signs welcoming hikers into the backyard and it seemed like know one was home so we hung out under a tent. After about an hour a woman came out and was suprised to see us there hangin out there. Her name was ziggy and she and a guy named the bear ownee the house. Once they realized we were there they came out and gave us each a foot bath (a tub of water to soak our dirty feet in, we both signed their trail register, she gave us fresh fruit, cold water, a sink so wash out some of our clothes in. We spent about six hours hanging out there relaxing. Just before we left ziggy made a huge salad with tons of fresh vegetables for us!
We hiked on another 10 miles and Stopped at the wind farms office for more water. Then went on to camp next to the largest creek we've come across so far.

Thanks to Ziggy!!!! I bet those little piggies needed a good washing.
ReplyDeleteThat tent looks huge. Glad to see you have your camera back!
